THIS IS A YEOVIL LITERARY FESTIVAL 2022 EVENT
YEOVIL LIBRARY
Strong female protagonists have been around since the days of Jane Austen. As the world sees a recent trend towards 'strong men' in power, in fiction there has been a resurgence of smart, dynamic women with agency. This phenomenon cuts across all genres, and is evident on bookshelves and bestseller lists. In this panel, three authors of strong female leads explain why such protagonists are popular with readers and why they might do a damn good job running the world!
On the panel are critically acclaimed author Ayisha Malik, whose novels include Sofia Khan is Not Obliged, This Green and Pleasant Land and the Outstanding The Movement. She is the winner of the 2020 Diversity Book Awards and has been shortlisted for The Asian Woman of Achievement Award. Vaseem Khan, award-winning author of the brilliant Inspector Chopra and Malabar House novels. Completing the line-up is Nikki May, whose debut Wahala was acquired in a nine-way auction. Wahala (meaning "Trouble") is a contemporary friendship novel with a crime twist and due to be turned into a major TV serial for the BBC.
