Amanda Barrie: I'm Still Here

Due to be released just days before her 90th birthday, Amanda Barrie’s autobiography promises to reveal the full untold story of her incredible life. It will feature tales from her childhood during the war and years as Alma on Coronation Street, as well as the making of her iconic Carry On films – in which she starred most famously as Cleo – behind-the-scenes on her month in the Big Brother House, hit TV series Bad Girls, and many more.

But her life away from TV and films has been even more eventful. In her autobiography, Barrie will relive the extraordinary experiences, both personal and professional, which have led her to where she is today. Running away from home aged just 13 to become a Soho showgirl led to an extraordinary life, and eventually led to true national treasure status. For the first time, she will tell the full story of how she met her wife – and ghost writer – novelist Hilary Bonner, and how they fell in love and built a new life together. A life she had not dreamed could ever be possible. She will also look back at the heart-wrenching struggles she faced as a young gay woman in the 1950s and early 60s and the decision she made to keep that side of her a secret for most of her adult life.

This event will take place in Wheeldon Suites 2 & 3
